Acclaimed filmmaker Zach Cregger is reportedly set to direct an upcoming Resident Evil movie, breathing new life into a film series that was previously put on hold. Cregger has garnered significant praise for his contributions to the horror genre, particularly with critically successful titles like Barbarian and Weapons, making him a seemingly fitting choice for the iconic survival horror franchise. His involvement comes at a time when the Resident Evil video game series is experiencing a strong resurgence, following multiple popular game releases over the last few years.

This new cinematic endeavor for Resident Evil almost didn’t materialize. After previous films struggled at the box office, plans for further adaptations of the popular gaming universe were nearly shelved entirely. It appears Cregger’s participation was instrumental in reviving these prospects, steering the film projects away from an uncertain future. This article is based on reporting by GameSpot.
