Wallpaper Engine, a utility program known for offering customizable desktop backgrounds on Steam for nearly a decade, is reportedly being permanently removed. The popular application has unfortunately been at the center of a security incident involving malware.
According to recent reports, malicious entities exploited the program several months ago. These bad actors apparently hijacked specific application wallpapers within the software, using them to infect users’ computers with malware while Wallpaper Engine ran in the background. As a direct consequence of this breach and ongoing security risks, the application is now set for permanent removal from the platform. This information comes from reporting by GameSpot.
