Framework has announced the discontinuation of its custom low-profile keyboard module, a component that was being developed for integration into its popular line of laptops. This decision means that an anticipated option for users looking to further personalize their devices will no longer be released to the market.

The primary factor behind the cancellation stems from the financial viability of the project. Framework indicated that they were unable to reduce the production expenses to a point where the module’s overall product economics would be sustainable. This situation underscores the common hurdle companies face when endeavoring to offer highly specialized or customized hardware without incurring prohibitive costs for consumers.
