With Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders going live at midnight, Rockstar has confirmed that the physical version of the game will not include a disc of any kind. Those who opt for the boxed edition will find nothing inside but a code to digitally download the game.
These disc-free boxes, priced at around $90 at base, will go on sale and begin shipping from November 12th. That date lines up precisely with the start of the pre-installation window on servers, giving players enough time to download everything ahead of the official launch in Vice City on November 19th.
While the shift toward an all-digital market is a growing trend with companies like Nintendo already dropping physical media for major exclusives like Pokémon Pokopia it still marks a significant moment to see what could become the biggest game of the current console generation abandon discs entirely.
After a string of delays, GTA 6’s release now appears locked in, and Rockstar has already laid out its launch editions in full detail. Alongside the standard version, the ambitious GTA 6 Ultimate Edition looks set to test the limits of fans’ wallets. Priced at around $100, or €110, this premium edition bundles exclusive vehicles, weapons and outfits, as well as additional locations and activities not found in the base game.
It’s worth noting that all of this content was designed before any version of GTA Online enters the picture. Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA 6 launches as “a single-player experience” on November 19th, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
As an added incentive, all copies purchased before November 20th come with the Vintage Vice City Pack a collection of nostalgic cosmetics and cars inspired by the series’ roots, though physical edition stock is limited. Meanwhile, those who pre-order the digital version will also receive one free month of the GTA+ subscription service.
